SATA to NVMe Adaptor

Came across something unusual today. The goal was to install a new hard drive (a hard drive is a thing that stores data. It's like a brain for a computer.) and copy the information over to a new larger capacity solid-state drive (a solid-state drive or SSD is a new type of computer storage that does not have moving parts. It can store large amounts of data and can be faster than other types of drives). When you initially remove the bottom cover of the laptop to inspect what kind of SSD the laptop takes, it appears to be a regular 2.5” SATA SSD. When you remove the hard drive casing itself from the laptop and turn it over, there is a small NVMe adaptor supporting an NVMe hard drive.

SATA to NVMe Adaptors are Computer Hardware that allows a user to connect their SATA drives or devices (Hard Drives, SSD Drives) to the much faster and more efficient NVMe PCIe based computer expansion slots.

NVMe Computer Expansion Cards use Non-Volatile memory express (NVMe) as a standard interface for connecting directly to PCI Express (PCIe), PCI-Express I/O (PCIe x8, x16, etc.), and other serial interconnect interfaces such as USB 3.1, Thunderbolt 2, and SATA Express The NVMe Computer Expansion Cards connect the Computer Hardware to the Computer Motherboard just as a GPU or other Computer expansion cards would.

NVMe Computer Expansions slots are not widely used in Computer Systems, although it is becoming more common on Computer motherboards featuring PCI-Express. NVMe Computer Expansion Cards have been available for several years now but are just recently starting to gain traction due to their much higher speeds over traditional hard drives.
