The Notebook battery Is Starting To Swell
We had an 8-year-old notebook dropped off for servicing today in Victoria BC, and noticed that the battery inside the notebook was starting to swell.
This is a sign that “off-gassing” is starting to occur. This is a sign that the battery is starting to fail, and could potentially be a fire hazard.
We contacted the client and discussed options to replace the part, replace the notebook, or run the notebook with the battery removed.
At this stage of the notebook’s life, failure for several parts are imminent, (battery, hinges, hard drive, cooling fan), and the client opted to just have the battery removed, and the client will use it for its remaining life span without a battery installed.
